FAQs

  • Bespoke Dimensions & Architectural Integration

The Studio provides custom scaling to accommodate specific architectural requirements. While standard editions follow a cinematic ratio, bespoke dimensions or modified border widths may be requested to suit unique interior environments. To ensure the structural and archival integrity of the work at larger scales, the following technical standards apply:

    • Scale exceeding 48 x 72 inches: To provide the necessary planar support and surface tension for the print, Acrylic Face-Mounting is the required finishing method.
    • Scale exceeding 48 x 96 inches: Works of this magnitude are transitioned into a Diptych, Triptych, or Polyptych (multi-panel) installation. These configurations can be finished in signature hardwood frames or as face-mounted units.

    Technical Requests
All bespoke configurations are reviewed by the Studio to ensure the visual integrity and archival proportions of the artist’s original composition are maintained. For inquiries regarding custom scaling or specific mounting specifications, please contact the Studio directly at archive@sebastianmaderstudio.com.

  • A Limited Studio Edition represents a definitive cap on the number of physical prints produced for a specific work, protecting the archival integrity and investment value of the image.

    The Studio Standard
Every work is produced as a museum-grade archival object using high-density pigments on 325 gsm Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta. To ensure absolute provenance, each print is hand-signed and numbered by Sebastian Mader on the front lower margin.

    The Pooled Edition Model
The Studio utilizes a Pooled Edition model, where a single edition count is shared across all dimensions. This ensures a strict global cap on the physical existence of the image, regardless of the scale selected. By pooling the edition, the Studio guarantees that the total number of physical works for an image will never exceed the stated limit (e.g., 75 + 8 APs).

    Permanent Retirement
Once an edition is exhausted, the work is permanently retired from the Studio’s active catalog. It will no longer be produced in an archival fine-art medium, safeguarding the exclusivity and scarcity of the works held by collectors.

  • Each Studio Edition is accompanied by a formal Certificate of Authenticity (CoA), serving as the definitive record of provenance. To ensure an undeniable link between the document and the work, the Studio employs a dual-layer security system:

    • Holographic Serialization: Each CoA features a uniquely serialized holographic label that corresponds to an identical, tamper-evident label affixed to the reverse of the artwork.
    • Artist Signature: In addition to the secure documentation, every print is hand-signed and numbered by Sebastian Mader on the front lower margin.

This integrated system protects the collector’s investment and ensures the work's inclusion in the official Sebastian Mader Studio Archive ledger.

  • The Studio utilizes a Tiered Pricing model based on the principle of increasing scarcity. As a Limited Studio Edition nears exhaustion, the market value for the remaining prints in the 75-count pool increases to reflect the diminishing availability of the work.

    Market Value
This structure ensures that early acquisitions are protected as the primary market for the image evolves. The price listed at the time of purchase is the definitive valuation for that specific tier of the edition. Once a price tier is reached, the Studio does not retroactively adjust pricing for previous tiers.

  • The Studio provides a definitive framing standard designed for both aesthetic minimalist impact and long-term archival stability.

    The Frame
Each work is housed in a hand-crafted, solid hardwood frame available in Satin White, Satin Black, or Natural Maple. To ensure the print remains perfectly flat and protected from atmospheric fluctuations, the Studio utilizes a precision dry-mounting process onto acid-free substrates. Every framed work is finished with professional hanging hardware, protective bumpers, and a museum-grade paperback dust cover to seal the internal environment.

    Glazing: Archival Acrylic
The Studio exclusively utilizes high-grade Optical Acrylic. Unlike standard glass, museum-grade acrylic is shatter-resistant, significantly lighter for large-scale installations, and provides superior UV protection. This ensures the chromatic integrity of the pigments is preserved against light-induced degradation over time.

  • The Studio offers two tiers of archival glazing to ensure the long-term chromatic integrity of the work:

    1. Standard UV Acrylic
Our baseline standard provides high-impact protection and filters 99% of UV radiation. It is the industry standard for archival framing, offering a balance of clarity and durability.

    2. Museum-Grade Optical Acrylic
For environments with significant ambient light or large windows, the Studio utilizes Museum-Grade Optical Acrylic. This is a high-performance material that is virtually invisible, featuring an anti-reflective coating that eliminates glare while maintaining 99% UV filtration.

    Technical Note on Refraction
A characteristic of high-performance interference coatings is a subtle, deep-green refraction that may be visible at extreme viewing angles. This is a technical hallmark of genuine museum-grade technology and does not alter the color profile or visual clarity of the underlying print.

  • The Studio advises against personal handling of unframed works. Archival pigment surfaces possess a high degree of tactile sensitivity and are easily compromised by skin oils, moisture, or physical abrasion.

    Professional Handover
To ensure the work remains in pristine condition, it is recommended that the piece be shipped directly to a professional framing studio. If a framer’s address is provided at checkout, the Studio will coordinate the secure transit and logistical handover on your behalf. This minimizes handling risks and ensures the work is only unpacked within a controlled, professional environment.

  • What are the production timelines?

Every Studio Edition is a bespoke archival object, produced and finished to the artist's exact specifications upon acquisition.

    • Unframed Studio Editions: 2–3 weeks. This window accounts for the precision printing process, mandatory pigment outgassing (drying) periods, and the artist’s hand-signing and numbering of the work.
    • Framed Studio Editions: 3–5 weeks.Framed works require an extended timeline for the hand-crafting of solid hardwood frames, acid-free dry-mounting, and the final archival sealing of the internal housing.

    Logistical Coordination
Following the production phase, the Studio will coordinate the secure transit of the work. For bespoke architectural scales or multi-panel installations, timelines may be extended to accommodate specialized crating requirements.

  • The Studio specifies that all unframed editions be archival dry-mounted onto acid-free substrates using archival-grade mounting tissue. This procedure is essential to ensure long-term planar integrity and to prevent "cockling" (rippling) of the heavy-weight 325 gsm fiber paper over time.

    Tube Storage Limitation
Unframed works must be removed from their protective shipping tubes and flattened by a professional within 14 days of delivery. Prolonged storage in a tube can lead to a permanent set in the paper fibers (fiber curl), which complicates the mounting process and may compromise the archival surface of the print.

  • The Studio coordinates global distribution for all archival works, utilizing specialized logistics partners to ensure secure transit.

    • Unframed Studio Editions: Available for worldwide shipping. All unframed works are secured in reinforced, heavy-duty archival tubes to ensure protection during international transit.
